Qué hechizo podrá defendernos del poderoso Phantom 300 A? Una sencilla técnica de encriptación. Usted publica una clave que permite que cualquiera que quiera mandarle un mensaje pueda “enredar” el mensaje, de tal forma que un tercero que quisiera leer el mensaje no lo entienda. Esta clave sólo permite “enredar”, para poder entender el mensaje se necesita otra segunda clave, que sólo tiene usted.

Supongamos que Daniel Coronell quiere mandarle un mensaje secreto a la Tata, con la chiva que saldrá en las noticias de esta noche. Daniel sabe que el DAS le tiene chuzado el teléfono, el celular y el internet. Entonces usa la clave pública de la Tata para encriptar el mensajito, y luego lo transmite. Cualquiera puede tener acceso al mensaje, pero como está encriptado no podrá entender lo que dice. La tata, antes de leerlo, lo desencripta con su clave privada. La chiva está protegida.

This is my own interpretation of the oath speech…

Barack Obama made his speech in front of more than a million people

..  Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some, but also our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age. Homes have been lost; jobs shed; businesses shuttered. Our health care is too costly; our schools fail too many; and each day brings further evidence that the ways we use energy strengthen our adversaries and threaten our planet.

I think new age here is his way to remember the hippies from the 70’s. It is a failure of the world leaders who didn’t listen, and so put in danger the world. USA is misusing energy, misusing the world and segregating people. But he continues that idea later…

On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord.

This one is clear. Fear, and discord were the basis of the path of the Republicans, Bush and McCain. Moreover, I would be worried,have I been foreign minister of Israel, as Obama is saying: America will not tolerate discord, will build on unity.

One more against the Bush doctrine. It is like Obama wanted to destroy that guy’s “legacy” from day one. No more guantanamo’s, America is fair even with it’s enemies.

To those leaders around the globe who seek to sow conflict, or blame their society’s ills on the West – know that your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you destroy.

To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history; but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist.

The silencing of dissent, like that of Uribe? The corruption and deceit, like that of Teodolindo and Yidis? I think that the Casade Nari has to be really worried about this one.

This is the meaning of our liberty and our creed – why men and women and children of every race and every faith can join in celebration across this magnificent mall, and why a man whose father less than 60 years ago might not have been served at a local restaurant can now stand before you to take a most sacred oath.

Tweacking Slackware on a Macbook

It has been a love-hate relationship between me an OS X. I tried hard to get used to it, but it was pointless. So the baby steps began, I made a 10G partition, and installed Ubuntu on it. I just didn’t like it. The apt-get system works nicely, but if your want something out from their repos expect a lot of trouble.  Overall it just didn’t click with me. I even tried Kubuntu, thinking that all I missed was KDE, and Xubuntu, thinking that it was simplicity which I missed the most. Then I wanted to go back to Slackware and naively tought that I needed a 64 bit distro, so installed Bluewhite64. Let’s just say that it is very difficult to get everything working for 64 bit linux, even more for a distribution so small. And at the end I just used the 64 bits for adding very large numbers… once!.

Obviously it was just matter of time until I returned to the good old slackware. Myfirst problem was that 10G is too small to do real work, so I had to free some space. The key is to free space from the HFS+ system, and then use the apple diskutill to make a second partition on the hard disk. It is important to get rid of big files in the HFS+ partition, or otherwise the command will fail.

After this was done, second cloud on the sky: I could not reboot my linux system as I had more than 4 partitions:

1. EFI

2. HFS+

3. New Linux

4. Old Linux

5. Old swap.

Oops. The data is still there, so no problem. Install slackware 12.2 on the new linux partition, do not format the old one, make a swapfile, reboot.

Next step, install Wireless on the thing. There are may branches of the madwifi code. Last time I tried (june 08) the most recent version would not work for this particular atheros chipset. The “trunk” version would, so this is what I install:

madwifi-ng-r3545-20080416.tar.gz

following the standard instructions on the madwifi webpage.

The sound glitch is solved with

rmmod -f snd_hda_intel

modprrmmod -f snd_hda_intel

on /et/rc.d/rc.local

Today I had to start from scratch again. My hard disk just died, a minute of silence for it. The people who changed my old HD installed OS X in the new one for me, so I had to resize again, using diskutil. After that I installed rEFIt. I had to use the “manual” (meaning executing a script from command) instead of the package, since the later would not work. Then I used refit shell to sync MBR and EFI partition table. After that I booted in linux, changed the type of the partition, formated it, and install slack.

Eran las 8 pm, estábamos sentados en el auditorio Leon de Greiff de la Universidad Nacional. Andrea armaba un rompecabezas en el celular con una foto que le acababa de tomar. Hizo trampa, miraba al señor sentado al lado suyo para saber donde estaban las piezas.

El concierto comenzó rápidamente, con una corta introducción de canciones flamencas .. “laicas”. Luego las versiones flamencas de las canciones religiosas, acompañadas por orquesta sinfónica y coro. La voz y la entrega de los cantantes hacían estremecer hasta el más ateo. Una hora después terminaba la presentación, tal vez demasiado cortica. Que delicia el festival de teatro.

Los análisis de ADN mitocontrial demostraron que los 700 bases de referencia son idénticos entre Clara Rojas, Ivan Rojas y el niño Juan David. Queda una duda de si es posible que existan, en la población general colombiana, dos familias con la misma secuencia de ADN mitocondrial. Al parecer la hipótesis del gobierno resultó ser verdad.

Santa has gotten a Chopper!

The New yorker has set up a page with the covers of 2007. Some of them are quite interesting, but for me the best one is this one, with santa riding a helicopter. ¿Does he need to be cover from the muslim fundamentalists? ¿is it just that he has given some time off to rudolph and the other guys? ¿is it now public that he has embraced judaism, and therefore his life is in danger? Completely hilarious.

For the record, last night we watched the last minutes of Stone`s documentary about Cuba. I can forget dad`s words about the failure of their model: instead of splitting the richness it was the poverty that was being shared among cubans. I also got an email -yes, probably from the people against the regime, but a portray of the nature of the living conditions anyway- of several phone calls made to different places at cuba. One, a grocery store which would not sell cuban products to cuban costumers paying in cuban currency (only dollars accepted, sorry), a cell phone company not giving phones to cubans (only foreigners and cuban celebrities, sorry) and so on. My feeling is that the model is very well wounded, but still continues to hold based on some strong grounds: education and social welfare mostly, which give hope and (yes) honor to those who stand up to fight for the Revolution. It is a shame that in order to have this so may people has to suffer that much.
